Me Too: Roxie Oates

Roxie Oates in front of van

About a year ago I decided that it was time for me to start looking for a van with a ramp. My little ford ranger has been good to me for 16 years, and I still love driving my truck, but it has become more and more difficult for me to climb in and pull my chair in beside me, and my shoulders are telling me it is time to stop.

I didn’t realize that it was going to be such a long and difficult process.

Several times I thought I had found the right van, but each time something happened and it didn’t work out. First, I went to the bank where I had been banking for years and inquired about an auto loan. I told them that I would be looking for a van with equipment on it.  I was told that all was good and that I would not have any problems. When I found a van that I really liked, I went to the bank to sign the papers, with the van in the parking lot ready for me to take home, I was told, “We have a problem. We only finance the value of the van not the equipment that has been added on to it.” I told them the van was no good to me without the equipment on it! The equipment costs as much as the van! He said he was sorry!

Then I found places that would be glad to finance it all for me with a very high interest rate.

I was beginning to get discouraged and thinking that it wasn’t going to happen, and couldn’t imagine how it could happen.  My family and friends kept telling me that it will happen “you just haven’t found the right van yet.”

I finally decided to put my trust in someone local, someone that I was familiar with and hoped that it would somehow work out, and it did, two weeks ago it happened, I now have my new wheels and I love it!

I know a lot of you have been through the same experiences, it’s hard not to get discouraged and feel  that you want to give up but you can’t, I couldn’t, I worked too hard to have my independence,  I had to believe that it was going to work out  somehow, and in the end it did. I am very happy with my new van. I can roll in, transfer into the driver’s seat and drive on!    “ Me too.”
