Me Too: Kimberley Tissot

Me Too – I’m a mother, wife, and Executive Director of a Center for Independent Living (Able South Carolina)! I joined the disability community at the age of 2 when my left leg was amputated due to childhood cancer (alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma). Age 2 is when I naturally became an advocate for myself and others with disabilities by educating people around me that disability is nothing to hide from. We aren’t special, heroes, or inspirations—we are people who want equality and opportunities. I’m very proud of who I am and I’m determined to empower others to embrace disability pride and advocate for equality, inclusion and independence for people with disabilities.
